Wiens F5 #26 signed Sept. 28 2009 is a very important instrument in my history as a mandolin maker. It was built in 2008-09 and intended as a full expression of the Fern F5 that Loar envisioned.

It features an abalone Fern inlay, Triple binding, One-piece Sugar maple back, and is equipped with a Virzi (or Wienzi).  Silver plated hardware throughout, including the James tailpiece and Waverly tuners with mother of pearl knobs. The fingerboard has the full size MOP lozenges and 29 Stainless steel frets with unmodified fingerboard extension. In 2009 this mandolin was the most ornate mandolin I’d built, and perhaps still is.

This instrument has been in the hands of a very busy musician/teacher and has opened up beautifully since it left my shop 15 years ago.

It is presently available to a good home. Fiberglass case included

$14,500. USD
